How to Handle Cable Tray Connections?
2025-11-24 01:38:38

As we all know, in today's society, cable trays are widely used in engineering projects. They are indispensable for wiring in high-rise buildings—serving as both a support structure for cables and a means to organize their routing. In short, cable trays are a reliable assistant for cable installation.

During the installation process, cable trays need to be assembled and connected. However, welding is not allowed for tray connections: as a rigid connection method, welding is significantly affected by external temperature changes, which can cause deformation. Additionally, welded joints are prone to rust and corrosion, impairing the overall performance of the trays. Instead, bolted connections should be used for joining cable trays. Beyond avoiding welding, what other precautions should be taken when installing cable trays? The fire-resistant cable tray manufacturer provides the following guidelines:

How to Handle Cable Tray Connections?

1. Select an Appropriate Assembly Site

Temperature differences can cause changes in the camber, warpage, and horizontal bending of the main beam. Therefore:

Assemble the cable trays indoors (e.g., in a workshop) as much as possible to minimize the impact of temperature fluctuations.

Conduct inspections of the assembled trays preferably in the morning or evening when temperatures are more stable.

2. Properly Position Supports

The camber of the main beam is affected by its own weight. To ensure stability:

Install supports for the main beam at or near the span ends.

For lighter-weight cable trays, position supports near the end beams.

3. Ensure Planarity of Components

To guarantee smooth operation after installing wheels (if applicable):

Mount the four sets of angle plates on the same horizontal plane during assembly.

Use this horizontal plane as the reference for adjusting all parts of the cable tray.
