Some people believe they are the same, while others argue they are completely different. Since there are no clear terms or definitions in relevant cable tray standards, no one can provide convincing evidence to persuade the other side. To understand this issue, we can start with the concepts of "hot-dip galvanizing" and "hot galvanizing."
National Standard GB/T 13912-2002 Metallic Coatings - Hot-Dip Galvanized Coatings on Iron and Steel Articles - Technical Requirements and Test Methods, which is under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Metal and Non-Metallic Coatings, mentions the term "hot-dip galvanizing" in Chapter 3. The specific definition is:
"Hot-dip galvanizing: A process and method where pretreated steel or cast iron parts are immersed in a molten zinc bath to form a zinc and/or zinc-iron alloy coating on their surface."

The term "hot galvanizing" is not mentioned in GB/T 13912-2002.
Are Hot-Dip Galvanized cable trays and Hot Galvanized Cable Trays the Same Product?
By consulting the superseded version of the standard, GB/T 13912-92 Metallic Coatings - Hot Galvanized Coatings on Iron and Steel Products - Technical Requirements, the term "hot galvanizing" is defined in Chapter 3 as:
"Hot galvanizing: A process and method where steel or cast iron parts are immersed in a molten zinc bath to form a zinc-iron alloy or zinc and zinc-iron alloy coating on their surface."
The term "hot-dip galvanizing" is not mentioned in GB/T 13912-92.
From the definitions of "hot galvanizing" and "hot-dip galvanizing" provided in the two different versions of the standard, it can be seen that although the expressions of the two terms are slightly different, their core meanings are consistent. This indicates that the term "hot galvanizing" has been superseded by "hot-dip galvanizing."
Therefore, it can be concluded that Hot-Dip Galvanized Cable Trays and hot galvanized cable trays are the same product, with "hot-dip galvanized cable tray" being the standardized name. To avoid ambiguity, it is recommended to adopt the term "hot-dip galvanized cable tray" as recognized by JB/T 10216-2013 and T/CECS 31-2017.
